The following map is an approximation of the Illinois Raptor Center's 15-acre property west of Decatur. Numbered areas correspond to a habitat type being restored in that location.

1. Prairie Reconstruction: The prairie was planted from seed on June 4, 2003. An $800 donation from the Illinois Native Plant Society covered the entire cost of wildflower seed.

2. Savanna Reconstruction: An open area in the "Daffodil Valley" section has been replanted with prairie and savanna species this. Due to the presence of many mature oaks and hickories in this section, it has been suggested that savanna plantings would be the logical choice for much of the valley.

3. Savanna II: This area has some openings where we will reintroduce bare root plants. Due to the presence of some native species in this section, a regime of burning and reintroduction is being undertaken over several years.

4. Upland woods are undergoing brush and non-native species removal, and fire is being reintroduced. Native woodland wildflowers gradually are returning.

5. Bottomland Hardwood Forest: An old pasture is being reforested with hardwood trees such as bur oak, pin oak, Kentucky coffee tree and walnut.

6.-7. Pond and Wetland: Lastly, it our hope to renovate the pond and flood a low-lying area to create a wetland. The wetland should be restored with the removal of a drain pipe.
