Even modest habitat loss can hurt our native wildlife | Some farmers were TEARING OUT THEIR HEDGEROWS. A neighbor, a kind retired gentlemen, was good enough to save the nest with its three babies and bring it to us. This intricate hanging bag nest was constructed by a pair of northern orioles (formerly known as the Baltimore oriole). We always recommend that people preserve valuable wildlife habitat on their property. Even a hedgerow can provide shelter and safety. If no alternative exists, please consider delaying work of this type until after August 1st, which will allow most types of wildlife to successfully nest and raise their young. They were admitted on 6/21. | We hope you enjoy these updated pictures of the baby orioles! | The babies feathered and fledged quickly. By June 23, they were standing (left photo). By June 25, they were branching and singing. We have been charmed by their beautiful songs. | On July 7, the orioles posed for one last picture before their release.
